Dr. Roberto Eduardo Mendoza Alfaro

Biologist by ENEP Iztacala-UNAM. He has a speciality dealing with fish and shrimp aquaculture by the Japan Sea Farming Association, and a DEA (Diplôme d’Etudes Approfondies) master’s degree in Biological Oceanography and a PhD in Aquaculture and Fisheries from the University of Western Brittany, France. He is member of the SNI (National Researchers System) since 1992, and level II for 13 years, he is also a member of the Mexican Academy of Sciences and the New York Academy of Sciences. He is director of the Laboratory of Ecophysiology of the Department of Ecology of the Autonomous University of Nuevo León (UANL). He is author of 13 books, 57 book chapters, 21 memories in extenso, 53 scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals, a patent and has given 288 conferences: 173 national and 115 presentations at international congresses. He has been awarded for the best undergraduate dissertation by the UANL at the state level, and the best doctoral dissertation, as well as the research award of the UANL and the University of Havana, Cuba. He is a member of the Board of Experts of CONABIO on Biosafety. Mexican representative at the Gulf of Mexico Regional Panel on Aquatic Invasive Species and the South Atlantic Task Force of aquatic invasive species of the United States. Member of the Advisory Committee for the National Strategy to prevent, control and eradicate Invasive Species in Mexico and was a Member of the Scientific Advisory Committee of the Inter-ministerial Commission of Biosafety of Genetically Modified Organisms in Mexico. He has been an international consultant for NOAA, the Commission for Environmental Cooperation, OSPESCA and the UN, and has taken part as a Mexican expert in the Convention on Biological Diversity on different occasions.
